This will be our fifth year having a youth cross country program and we are super excited! Our goal is to have this youth team develop runners and prepare them for the high school level of cross country. We focus on the 3 F's for this level:
Form - learn how to run correctly, this will allow you to run faster, more efficiently, and with less injury
Fun - enjoy running, learn to love what you are doing so you can do it for the rest of your life
Friends - make friends that will carry you into high school and beyond, whether you continue to run for East in high school or change schools we want you to have the network of friends no matter what!
Our goal is to not burn out our athletes, as you see on other teams or sports. We want to be competitive and will work towards that, but our focus is the long term health of the athlete, and moving them to the next level to be more successful.
Coach David Senecal will be the coach for his 5th season! He has been a PE teacher at PB Ritch for years, competes in road races (running and biking), coached with the high school team in the past, and his son ran for the high school team as well. He has a passion for sport and will be a tremendous asset to this youth program. Last season he worked primarily with the new runners in developing the love for the sport while working with their form.
