Summer Running Camp

A great way to continue improving for cross country is to establish a base and run during the summer. Even more than that, going to a running camp can be a huge step forward! Summer running camp is not just running, normally they include classes to learn about different workouts, eating/drinking habits, stretching, and more, form work, making new running friends from different teams, and other fun things. Below is a list of camps available nearby. I personally work at Nike Running Camp in Asheville. I have listed others that may be closer, a different time, or price.

Nike Smoky Mountain Running Camp

($810)

 

Where: Asheville, NC, stay in the UNC Asheville dorms

Week 1: 7/7 - 7/12

Week 2: 7/14 - 7/19

Week 3: 7/21 - 7/26

Runners train at 3 locations; Warren Wilson College, Ball Fields, and Smoky Mountains, all locations are nearly 100% trails. Afternoons athletes will work on pacing at the track. Evening activities include talent show, dance, battle of the sexes, and a scavenger hunt.

Brevard Distance Running Camp

($625 or $600 if 7 runners attend)

 

Where: Brevard, NC, stay in the Brevard College dorms

Week 1: 7/7 - 7/13

Week 2: 7/14 - 7/20

Week 3: 7/21 - 7/27

Runners train in the Blue Ridge Mountains, which is nearly 100% trails. Evening activities include talent show, dance, dodgeball, etc.

Atlanta Track Club Running Camp

($600 by 5/31 or $650 after 5/31)

 

Where: Young Harris, GA, stay in Young Harris College dorms

Week 1: 7/1 - 7/19

Runners train in the Appalachian Mountains around Young Harris College. High School athletes will train up to 7-8 miles a day and work on other aspects like drills and cross training as well.

FCA Running Camp

($320)

 

Where: Reinhardt University

Week 1: 7/21 - 7/24

Runners train in the Waleska area, and will be expected to be able to run a minimum of 20 miles a week. This camp is relatively new, but I do know there are some very good coaches that help here!
